		<description>Dear Kimberly:

Thank you for your message. The problems and symptoms you have described are similar to those we have heard from many other patients. As you know, "PTLS" is - unfortunately - not recognized as a legitimate condition by either the medical establishment or the insurance industry. Dr. Berger became interested in this issue and began studying it in his patients after he found that an increasing percentage of his patients would mention it to him while here for reversal surgery. Many of these women contacted him after their surgeries to say that the reversal had helped them dramatically - even if pregnancy had been their primary goal and the PTLS just an aside.

We do not understand what about having a sterilization causes the symptoms, why they vary so much between different women, or why PTLS only seems to affect some women and not others. What we are doing is collecting data from our patients who tell us they have this problem, then following up with them 6 months after their reversal surgery. We have not analyzed the data yet - but so far, it appears that close to 90% of the women we have followed up with have experienced either some or dramatic improvement. There is no way to know whether you would be one of them - but you certainly have a possibility of feeling better from the TR surgery.

Although Dr. Berger cannot guarantee relief of PTLS after a reversal, we hope this information is helpful to you in making your decision.

Sincerely,

Julia Smith, RN, ALNC

<description>I had a tubal ligation 10 years ago. I was only 22 years old. I was convinced that this was the way to go. Since then, I have been suffering and I'm tired of it! I can't tell you how many times I have had to leave work and change my clothes. I bleed all the way down to my knees. I'm so embarrassed! My periods are always so heavy and painful. I always pass huge blood clots. I wear a combination of super tampons and overnight maxi pads. It still leaks through. I have been tempted to wear Depends underwear! I'm starting to cramp ALL MONTH LONG! I have gained so much weight! I'm always so exhausted! I have constant headaches! I'm angry that doctors and insurance companies do not recognize that this is a problem. I want this reversed.
