The Bad Health Effects Of Sugar
Sugar is something that many people crave, whether it’s in their coffee, in the cakes or pastries they enjoy, or the candy they munch on while they wait in tailbacks during their daily commute. The problem is that it’s also something that we are constantly being told is bad for us. So exactly why is this substance that tastes so good so very bad for us?
First of all, anything you eat goes into your mouth, and sugar is one of the worst offenders for causing tooth problem. All sugar whether it’s in the form of candy, or even natural fruit sugars, will create an acid attack on your teeth.
Next, did you know that eating sugar can make your skin more wrinkly? This happens when it isn’t burned off as energy but remains in your bloodstream where is can stick to your cells. This can even be the cause of brittle nails if this is something you’re prone to.
The most commonly known effects of eating too much sugar are in the area of weight gain. Anyone who is overweight has a higher risk of developing Type 2 diabetes which is where the body is unable to process sugar effectively. Although it’s likely that you will need some medication to help to control your insulin levels, once you start to eat healthily it’s more than possible you can control your Type 2 diabetes with diet alone for quite some time.
Sugar isn’t easy to quit, nor is it always easy to find so you need to start reading nutrition labels for sugar content – including foods like white bread that contain sugar – in order to start reducing the amount of sugar in your diet. Over time, this will have a positive effect on your health so you will find it’s worth the effort!
