Are You Ready to Part With Your Character Defects?
If you asked most people if they would be willing to give up the character defects in exchange for a better life, most would answer quickly that they would. But would you really? All that has ever been between any person and a life of fulfillment and abundance since the moment we became self aware is to rid our personalities of negative character traits and live with positive ones. So why don’t most people do this?
For one, many people aren’t specifically aware of their character defects. In fact, the 12 step program dedicates three entire steps, a full one-quarter of the 12 total steps, to identifying, sharing, and finally releasing the defects of character that are destroying our lives.
Some examples of common defects of character include:
- Anger
- Gluttony
- Greed
- Pride
- Envy
- Lust
- Sloth
- Arrogance
- Boasting
- Cheating
- Close-mindedness
- Criticizing
- Dependency
- Dishonesty
- Fear
- Gossiping
- Hopelessness
- Impatience
- Insulting
- Intolerance
- Lying
- Negative Thinking
- Self pity
Which of these do you need to work on? If you glossed over the list quickly without much thought, ask yourself again, are you really ready to part with your character defects Removing them from your life will require a deep new level of awareness, will unearth pain and guilt, but then will ultimately result in a life more fulfilling than you may be able to imagine.
