Why Do We Let Ourselves Become Unhealthy?
For people who are recovering from drugs and alcohol, or for those are not addicted, but who have some tie to addiction through a family member, or just feel as if they may be slowly drifting down the wrong path, it’s essential to stay on top of your health now before things spiral out of control. It’s much easier to get a grasp on your mental and physical well being before addiction makes them just a faded memory.
One of the best things you can do is to keep your body and your mind healthy is to visit a doctor regularly for checkups and necessary exams. There are many people who don’t have health insurance and brush off checkups or don’t seek help for depression or other mental illnesses. For you, there are lots of low cost or no cost insurance plans through the state and there are even more low cost private insurance plans that are worth the cost when you consider that what you’re gambling is your health and well-being. Even people who do have access to health insurance often go years without seeing a doctor when they know they need to. Why do this to yourself?
Becoming healthy physically and mentally can be a difficult change, but once the change gets underway, the power of health and wellness feels better than any high imaginable. Take small steps to a healthier lifestyle if you must in order to build a routine into your daily life. Subscribe to some personal health related blogs to get a more personal view of the healthier side of life. I just read that a BCBSNC provider will be launching a new blog dedicated to health care issues that might offer pointers on how to reduce costs of insurance as well for those who don’t have the option of employer assisted health coverage.
Start small if you must. Eat one piece of fruit or one vegetable a day this week and up it to two next week. Take a short walk every day – its fantastic for the mind and the body. Getting centered can do wonders to eliminate a craving for a drink or a hit or a fix. Even though it’s best for us, it’s often difficult to do what’s healthy, but health is an essential piece of living a joyous sober lifestyle.
