Keeping Up With The Kids
Long, But Good, Day
I had a long day today. One of our sons is a Boy Scout and today was the annual Scout-o-Rama event. We subjected ourselves to hours of fun and not-so fun, depending on your perspective, in 90 degree Southern Californian heat. Free food, games, water, and spins on the wheel of fortune at various retailers were the highlights.
My 13 year old daughter won the cherry pie and watermelon eating contest which earned her a $25 gift card! Not to be outdone, my 9 year old daughter entered the pie eating contest as well and took 2nd place - she won a water bottle. Not bad for her first attempt! Later, that same 9 year old won me a new wallet and some reusable grocery bags.
Our 11 year old girls scored on namebrand surfwear items and our nine and three year old sons tried every booth and climbing wall. Ezra, our one year old, lived the day in his stroller, watching everyone move freely about him. We did a lot of walking. Needless to say I was exhausted at the end of the day and my joints had started acting up.
However, dinner was looming and the kids were having a hard time settling down, so we went to the beach. That way I could avoid cooking and cleaning up after 15 people (family + 5 friends). We had a great time relaxing over 8 feet of Subway sandwiches (not gluten free), chips, carrots, and water. The kids played and my husband and I and our friend (recently back from serving in Kuwait) caught up on each others lives. It was a good day.
To top it all off, guess what I wore? A t-shirt I received in the mail that reads “Have you blogged today?” from my web host, Today.com. Too cute!
