Concentration

Concentrated attention is not only necessary to become successful, but also is necessary to change our minds and brains.

It is not unusual for clients to become discouraged, after experiencing the glitter of hope.  They begin to see clearly how they can change their behavior and reach their goals, but fail to engage in concentrated attention to reach their goals.  A lack of concentrated attention results in discouragement and failure.

"champions know sustained concentration of thought and action is usually the true key to their success.

While average people haphazardly pursue loosely dened goals, champions concentrate on the attainment of a singular purpose with an intensity that borders on obsession.

These quotations are from Steve Siebold, author of "177 Mental Toughness Secrets Of the World-Class".

Jeffrey M. Schwartz, M.D. and Sharon Begley emphasized the importance of sustained concentration or attention for changing our brains in their book, The Mind and the Brain, Neuroplasticity and the Power of Mental Force.

Any person can use their minds with sustained attention to change their brains.  With attention and concentration a person’s mind can change his or her brain.

Concentration is necessary for success at a physiological level regarding our brain and also at a performance level regarding the achievement of our goals.

Too many people feel that they are failures, because they have failed to apply concentrated attention to change their behavior or achieve their dreams.

Rather than give up, make a commitment to concentrate on achieving your goals and dreams.  You can become victorious.  You can become a champion by believing in yourself and concentrating on your goals or dreams.

I think the key thing is to understand that success can be attained by focusing “singularly” on a goal with much concentrated effort. I have OCD and I know how intensely I can focus on an obsession that has a negative effect on me. I have focused so much on something that it is all I can think of. It consumes me sometimes to the point of sickness. Now, I need to redirect my thinking into a positive area. I want to become successful. By that, I mean I want to be able to do something I really enjoy doing, do it good, and be able to take care of myself financially. It is important to me at this point in my life. I need to direct my attention toward that goal almost singularly with the exception of my children. I would never want to cheat them of my time. I think it means saying “No” to anything that would interfere with my goal and putting much focus on succeeding with the free time that I have. I’ll let you know how I do!

My only other thought though, is how a person with attention deficit disorder factors in on the success meter?
