Mother Teresa’ Quotations Applied In Maternal Love
For over forty years Mother Teresa ministered to the poor, sick, orphaned, and dying. She directed the Missionaries of Charity’s expansion, first throughout India and then in other countries.
In 1979 she won the Noble Peace Prize for her humanitarian work.
According to Wikipedia:
"Mother Teresa’s Missionaries of Charity continued to expand, and at the time of her death it was operating 610 missions in 123 countries, including hospices and homes for people with HIV/AIDS, leprosy and tuberculosis, soup kitchens, children’s and family counseling programs, orphanages, and schools."
I visited a website, Beyond Positive Thinking, and found some wonderful quotes from Mother Teresa on love.
As I read through the quotations, many of them reminded me of love shown by mothers to their children and families. Here are some of the quotations that I believe apply to mother’s love.
Mothers face an enormous mission and responsibility for caring about their families. I think Mother Teresa’s quote expresses what many mothers have felt:
"I know God will not give me anything I can’t handle. I only wish he didn’t trust me so much".
Mothers appreciate and understand the true nature of love and giving. Mother Theresa put it this way:
"It’s not how much we give, but how much love we put into giving".
Mother Teresa put the importance of raising children into perspective with this quotation:
"I am a little pencil in the hand of a writing God who is sending a love letter to the world".
Isn’t it wonderful to think about raising children as giving a love letter from God to the world?
Mothers and Mother Teresa know where love begins. Mother Teresa said it this way
"Love begins by taking care of the closest ones- the ones at home".
Mothers certainly can identify with this quotation from Mother Teresa:
"Do not think that love, in order to be genuine, has to be extraordinary. What we need is to love without getting tired".
The importance of the "small stuff" is expressed in this quote from Mother Teresa:
"What I do you cannot do; but what you do, I can not do. The needs are great, and none of us, including me, ever do great things. But we all can do small things, with great love, and together we can do something wonderful".
Mothers know how much energy and commitment is needed to fill a child with love and confidence. This is how Mother Teresa said it:
"To keep a lamp burning we have to keep putting oil in it".
In raising and disciplining a child, loving your child is much more important than judging your child. Mother Teresa put it very strongly:
"If you judge people, you have no time to love them".
Finally the importance of love is clearly stated in the following quotation.
"The biggest disease today is not leprosy or tuberculosis, but rather the feeling of being unwanted".
I hope you will enjoy these quotations on love and mothers. The importance of raising children is often taken for granted. With this post I wanted to recognize and express gratitude for caring mothers, fathers, grandparents and other caretakers.
Loving children is the basis for creating children with good mental health and mental fitness.
I want to honor mothers, fathers and surrogate parents who are dedicated to raising their children with love.
