Eight Ways A Mental Fitness Program Can Be Used in Counseling Or Coaching
Yesterday, I was asked if both counselors and coaches can use mental fitness training with their clients? The answer is yes.
Both coaches and therapists, who want their clients or patients to develop an inner strength for overcoming individual struggles can use mental fitness training to facilitate their clients resolving their problems or achieving their goals.
Both potential coaching and therapy clients can use mental fitness training in eight ways:
1. As an alternative form of self-help prior to entering counseling or coaching, especially for clients and spouses who are not ready to begin either service. Some potential clients or their spouses are resistant or afraid of starting counseling or coaching, but are willing to engage in a self-help activity. A fitness model is much preferred to an illness model by many people.
2. As a preparation for entering counseling or coaching. My mental fitness program was created from the insights for behavioral change taught me by my therapy and coaching clients. Some people like to be prepared before entering counseling or coaching. There is no better way to prepare beginners for entering counseling or coaching than to learn from people who have benefited from these services.
3. As an adjunct to counseling or coaching. Some therapists and coaches like their clients to engage in related activities while receiving counseling or coaching. Some of these activities include journaling, letter writing, reading, relaxation training, physical fitness training and participating in self-help groups. Another wonderful activity for people in coaching or counseling is to participate in a mental fitness program. The insights derived from the mental fitness program can interact with the benefits from counseling or coaching to maximize the benefits from each individual program.
4. As an integral part of the counseling or coaching process. Counselors and coaches can use a mental fitness program as the major part of the service offered to you. Mental fitness programs can facilitate insights, self-awareness, new solutions and increased confidence necessary for counseling or coaching to be effective.
5. As a way of applying counseling or coaching insights into everyday living. The goal of both counseling and coaching is to improve the quality of your everyday living. In order for therapy and counseling to be effective, results of these services must be integrated into everyday living. A mental fitness program it is an excellent way to apply the benefits from counseling and coaching into everyday living.
6. As a way of maintaining the benefits of counseling or coaching, once the service has stopped. Once counseling or coaching has been successfully completed, there must be a plan to prevent relapse. It is a very important to make changes in every day living that will last. The insights and solutions generated from counseling or coaching can be maintain on a daily basis through mental fitness training. Mental fitness training is a great system for relapse prevention.
7. As a way of maximizing the benefits from counseling and coaching through productive thinking, relaxation and visualization. How you think about your life is tremendously important. A mental fitness program will provide thought patterns to foster beneficial changes in counseling or coaching. A mental fitness program can also be applied with relaxation and visualization to further enhance the insights and solutions generated from counseling and coaching.
8. As a way of strengthening oneself to have the focus, courage and commitment to take care of oneself. There will be many new thoughts, feelings, and insights generated by counseling and coaching. People must be strong enough to make changes. The purpose of mental fitness training is to make people strong enough to make new choices in their lives.
