Patriot Guard Riders
Patriotism in action is worthy of respect and recognition. Although the Patriot Guard Riders do not seek recognition for themselves, I believe their grassroots organization and mission are worthy of respect, gratitude and appreciation.
They call themselves "a diverse amalgamation of riders from across the nation", even though non-riders are encouraged to join them. They unite to respect "those who risk their very lives for America’s freedom and security".
Our fore-fathers and the framers of our constitution would be proud of this group and their commitment to grass roots democracy. Quietly, they show their respect and gratitude for the fallen protectors of our country. They give of themselves and expect nothing in return.
Patriot Guard Riders, has been added to my Resources section. I have chosen to blog about the Patriot Guard Riders from the perspective of mental fitness. This group is thriving and growing, because of their vision regarding their fellow Americans. By making their vision for America a reality, they are living examples of mental fitness, true America values and the powerfulness of the human spirit.
Below are some observations regarding their mental fitness and strength:
- Their lack of complacency regarding our democracy and those who sacrifice by giving of themselves and their loved ones for our protection and freedom;
- Their over-coming self-absorption in their own lives;
- Their clear vision and commitment to this vision;
- Their courage to act together and individually;
- Their missions are done with respect and dignity,
- Their acceptance and respect of all people;
- Their altruism in caring for others;
- Their seeking nothing in return for their commitment;
- Their acceptance of the frustrations associated with caring out their visions;
- Their realization that being true to themselves and their values in life is all the recognition they need.
We are all busy in our lives; often to the point of complacency in regard to bigger picture of life around us. Check out the Patriot Guard Riders. See if you want to make their vision, your vision!

Dr Hal,
Thank you for your thoughts and comments on the Patriot guard Riders. We are all different but have one common mission, Patriotism with Respect and Honor to all of our military. To let them know that we care and Respect what they do for us as a whole.Especially the ones that have given the ultimate sacrifice, to show their family and friends the utmost Respect and Honor,that their loss was not in vain, nor unnoticed.
We are proud to tell all that we are Patriot Guard Riders, what we stand for and help out where we can. Patriotism is not dead in this country, it just needed a little push to show it. We thank the founders of the Patriot Guard Riders for their vision and guts to take a stand for Respect and Honor.

Dr. Hal,
I stumbled across your article and really enjoyed it! You certainly hit the nail on the head. My husband, Jay, and I are members of the PGR in Colorado. From our first mission, we knew there was something wonderfully different about these people. When the family of a fallen soldier stopped in the midst of their grief to say thank you, the realization hit that we were bringing real comfort to them the only way we can. Could we do any less? The people that make up the PGR are without a doubt the finest individuals I’ve ever known. I’m proud to be a small part in such a great movement!

More common sense here than Dr. Phil!
PGR is not even one year old, and along with 64,000 others across the USA, I have never met, nor been associated with, such a kind hearted group. Patriots all, I am more proud each day of my fellow PGR brothers & sisters. With 35 years in a high school classroom I’ve never had as many moving moments as I’ve experienced in PGR missions. And we teachers never called ourselves “brothers & sisters” either!
It is amazing to hear and see PGR missions around the country accomplishing our driving force, RESPECT, for our military. And this with our basis written in a simple two point founding PGR mission statement.
Dr. Hal….you would find a pretty amazing cross section of America were you to personally interview PGR membership.
Thank you for your insight.
