Grossman’s Confidence Validated

Grossman validated!

"I know where I am going.  I know how to get there", Rex Grossman exclaimed.

In spite of his unbelievably, embarrassing outing, when he fumbled twice and threw four interceptions. he communicated these thoughts publicly.

Two weeks ago, Rex Grossman figuratively speaking, fell flat on his face.  Did he pick himself up, push his shoulders back confidently and play like a winner?

Yesterday, was his first game, after the performance he would like to forget, but won’t.  He won’t forget about his trip to Arizona, because of what he learned about himself from the experience.

He already had the confidence.  After all he said, "I know where I’m going.  I know how to get there".  He learned from his disastrous experience, thereby increasing his confidence.

Yesterday, Rex Grossman’s commitment and courage to be confident was validated.  He picked himself up from the ashes and agony of professional failure.  He put into perspective his poor performance.  He produced validating results, because of his confident thinking!

In slightly more than two quarters, Rex Grossman completed 23 of 29 passes for 252 yards.  He threw three touchdowns.  What a turnaround from two weeks ago.

Was his success accidental?  Having great teammates, coaching and game plans are all important factors in his success and the success of the team.  Still, I think we would be wrong to assume that Rex Grossman’s successes are only the result of the skills and enthusiasm of the whole organization.

There have been many very successful teams, coaches and game plans, who have quarterbacks that have failed to be winners.

I believe successful thinking creates confidence, successful feelings, and successful performances.  Rex is confident and a winner, because he thinks from inside of himself.

He did not allow bad circumstances, criticisms from others, his poor performance or feelings of insecurity determine his identity.  His identity was detached from these realities.  His identity and success were determined by his thinking about himself.

He created successful reality today, because he courageously verbalized two weeks ago, "I know where I am going.  I know how to get there".

I hope I can learn from Rex to think confidently about myself, when everything seems like it is going wrong in my life.  I’m going to try to reduce anxiety, painful experiences and criticisms from others by thinking like Rex.

Are you willing to try to get a clear focus on yourself, when you feel like you have fumbled or thrown interceptions?  Will you join me in thinking "I know where I’m going.  I know how to get there"?
